A joint operation by the Brong Ahafo Regional and Nkoranza South Municipal Police Commands, has led to the arrest of 21 criminals including a woman at Nkoranza.The operation, conducted on Wednesday July 17, code named: “Operation Hook Out,” arrested the criminals from four communities in the Municipality.Fourteen were arrested at Nkoranza-Kokofu, four of them at Nkwabeng, two at Akumsa Domase and the only woman at Brahoho was arrested with two polythene bags containing some dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza South Municipal Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that those arrested were between 16-38 years.He said their names had been withheld for security reasons.DSP Owusu said the exercise was the result of reports of rampant stealing from the communities and it would continue.He said the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command would provide logistic support and means of transport to deal with miscreants in the society.He said the Police had intensified patrols to ensure the security and safety of traders, who traveled during the night. He added that armed police personnel would in some cases accompany travelers.DSP Owusu said the suspects had been sent to Sunyani for screening before the culprits would be prosecuted.In another development, thieves broke into the Nkoranza Community Information Centre located within the premises of the Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly and made away with two sets of Omatec computers.Mr Christian Gyabaah-Yeboah, Manager of the centre, told the GNA that the theft was detected on Tuesday, July 16.He said when he reported for work, he realized that the ceiling had been broken and the computers taken away.The Nkoranza police are investigating the theft.
