The Ghana Education Service (GES) is to begin consultations on Monday which will inform a decision on who should own rLG laptops presented to them by government. The teachers were given the laptops in December last year after an ICT training programme organised for them by the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology. However, the Metro Education Directorate has since written to the teachers, demanding that they hand over the laptops to their various schools, or risk being dismissed. The teachers have dismissed the demands, deepening controversy over the ownership of the laptops. However, Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Steve Adu told Joy News a decision will have to be made to end the raging controversy.
According to him, "The whole thing is a ministry driven project...the very day they were distributing the laptops, the Minister of Energy, he was saying that 'let's give it to them' but the GES was also saying that 'if it doesn't pass through the books, then it will be difficult'" to just give it to them.Steve Adu said both parties will meet to resolve the issue amicably.
