Veterinary officers in the Builsa North district in the Upper East region have placed a ban on the slaughtering of animals in the area following the latest outbreak of anthrax. Some residents are reported to have contracted the disease, which attacks animals. Public campaigns are however underway to sensitize residents in order to ensure the disease does not spread any further. Regional Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Moses Dbordsi, tells Joy News a ban on the movement of animals and other measures are being enforced to fight the disease. He said 69 animals who contracted the disease have died so far, but they are yet to record any death after the other animals were vaccinated. He said his outfit will also ensure that no infected animal is consumed by humans. Dr. Moses Dbordsi said their work is however hampered by lack of funds.
