The Inspector General of Police Mohammed Alhassan has asked the national Chief Imam to educate Muslim youth against fomenting trouble after the Supreme Court delivers its verdict in the ongoing election petition.The Ghana Police boss made the call when he paid a visit to the Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu in Accra on Thursday.Joy News’ Michaela Anderson who was with the IGP on his tour said the IGP extended his appeal to the entire Muslim leadership in the country to educate the youth on the need to accept whatever ruling the court would give.He maintained that the law would not tolerate persons who would want to take advantage of the decision of the court to breach the peace of the country.In his response, the Chief Imam Sheik Osman Nuhu Sharubutu said the Muslim community would not relent in collaborating with the National Peace Council to ensure that the peaceful atmosphere of the nation is maintained.On the sideline of the tour, the national commander for the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Agwunbutoge Awuni, called on the Chief Imam to advise the youth to register their motorbikes and wear helmets when riding.He warned that persons who disregard the advice would be dealt with according to the law.The Inspector General of Police was expected to pay similar call on the Christian Council of Ghana.Meanwhile, a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Arthur Kennedy has attributed the election petition to what he describes as the country’s archaic electoral system.As the nation awaits the addresses of the petitioners and respondents next week, the former NPP campaign manager tells Joy News the Electoral Commission as well as all related bodies have a huge task on their hands in ensuring electoral reforms.The 2012 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate and chairman of the party are in court seeking to overturn the presidential election results as declared by the Electoral Commission in favour of President John Mahama.
