President John Mahama is advocating for the deregulation of the energy sector and other key sectors of the African economy.The president indicated that the energy sector should be deregulated and the private sector allowed to invest and produce energy to feed industries as well as for domestic consumption.Speaking at Forbes Afrique forum in Congo, president Mahama noted that the key sectors in the economies of African countries are enjoying massive transformation and investment on the entire continent.He added that the transport sector too should be privatized."Let us let the private sector do what they do best that is investment for infrastructure as government concentrates on investing in the social sector to improve healthcare, improve education, and other human development index indicators,” he said.The president also added that government cannot independently leverage the kind of investments to provide the power that Africa needs.He cited Ghana's decision to allow independent power producers.President Mahama indicated that allowing the private sector to take over the energy sector will allow excess power be transmitted to countries with less power.
