A 70-year-old remand prisoner has been abandoned at the Accra Central Police Station in a condition some police personnel say could kill him.
The man is said to have been lying on the floor at the charge office since Monday.
Apart from his name, which was given as Simon Adjokatcher, not much is known about the man and why he is left on the bare floor for days.
Joy News' Manasseh Azure Awuni visited the Accra Central Police Station reported that though no official at the charge office would speak on record, they are worried about the man’s condition and the mess he creates.
Shivering, on the cold, bare floor of the charge office, the old man defecates and urinates on himself, a police officer told Manasseh.
The station officer says the man’s case is being handled by the Regional Police Command and he doesn’t know anything about it.
The station officer at the regional headquarters also said he could not comment about the old man when he was contacted.
But a police officer at the charge office says the man was seriously ill in prison and was admitted at the Police Hospital for two weeks.
Though, he was yet to fully recover, the hospital authorities discharged him and he has been lying at the charge office since Monday.
The police officer says sometimes those on duty at the charge office feed him.
He said the man has been a remand prisoner for seven years but his case cannot proceed because the docket on his case is missing.
He said the old man has been left there to die and described his condition as worrying to those at the charge office.
