The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has denied any wrongdoing in the purchase of 14 transformers in 2011, a transaction that has become subject of investigations by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO).A consultant of the company, Yaw Nsiah, blew the whistle on alleged financial impropriety that led to the loss of over $4 million through over-invoicing.The petition claims Crompton Greaves Ltd, an Indian firm which sold the transformers to GRIDCo, was paid an amount of $4,170,330 million as the Free on Board (FOB) value of the first batch of six transformers, while GRIDCO claims to have paid $6,581,376 million, thus creating a difference of $2,411,376 million.But Public Affairs Officer of GRIDCo, Albert Quainoo, said the allegations are false.He said "GRIDCo did not pay overpay Crampton Greaves in the purchase of the transformers. Secondly, the contract was on a cost-insurance basis and not on FOB basis."He also stated that GRIDCo bought the 14 transformers directly from Crampton Greaves and not through a third party as alleged by the petition.He however said the company is still awaiting the further outcome from the EOCO investigations.
