The Upper East Regional Girl-Child Education Officer, Rose Akanson, has revealed that despite several interventions in the area, teenage pregnancy is still on the rise.Speaking at this year’s Upper East Regional Girls’ Durbar held in Bongo, Madam Rose Akanson, said the situation has worsened because the girls are getting pregnant with their own age mates who cannot cater for them. She said although the schools, parents and some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have tried to reverse the trend in teenage pregnancy hikes, "yet we don't understand why the little girls are still getting pregnant at age 14,15 and 16".She said in the just ended Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), there were 14 teenage girls who sat the exams.Teenage girls who attended the Durbar were taken through a lecture on the importance of Girl-child education and how to handle themselves at the critical teen-ages by the guest speaker, Veronica Ayamba.
