Officials of public hospitals have welcomed government’s directive to the Electricity Company of Ghana to exclude hospitals from being migrated to the prepaid meter system.
As part of government’s decision to cut down expenditure on electricity tariff, ECG had earlier proposed migration of all Ministries, Government departments and Agencies including hospitals, onto the prepaid metering system.
Some hospital authorities said they are happy their concerns have been taken into consideration.
They added that if the issue is revisited in the future, government should look out to pay economic tariffs that will cover utilities hence enable them generate funds to pay any such bills.
The public relations officer of ECG , William Boateng however, said the directive is not applicable to all hospitals.
Moreover, only vital sections of the hospitals like the surgical unit will be exempted. The residents of doctors and other domestic places will not be exempted from the migration to prepaid meter system.
