The Council of State is asking President John Mahama to be bold and resolute in dealing with the serious issues confronting the country. The Council said issues such as economic challenges, corruption and unemployment among others, needed to be addressed holistically. Madam Cecilia Johnson, Chairperson for the Council of State made the remarks on Friday at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region, when the Council held its first meeting with the President since his inauguration in January. The meeting was used to inform the President about the Council's impression of his management of the country and make suggestions on what government can do to make Ghana a better country. She said the Council is however impressed with some bold decisions president John Mahama had taken as well as his resolve to stay focused despite the numerous challenges facing his administration. "We are happy to note that under your able and dedicated leadership, government has remained focused and continue to rise to the challenge through bold and firm decisions in addressing some of these issues," she noted. The Council also commended the president for putting measures in place to address agitations in the labour front. Meanwhile, the Council of State has applauded President Mahama for openly declaring his readiness to accept any ruling by the Supreme Court, which is hearing a petition challenging the legitimacy of his presidency. Madam Cecilia Johnson said the Council is equally impressed with the preparedness of the various security agencies and their constant reminder to Ghanaians, to ensure the country remained peaceful even after the Court gives its verdict. President Mahama in his address conceded that, his administration had faced a number of challenges since assuming office but added, steps have been taken to deal with some of them. He said several interventions had also been put in place to address some of the issues, particularly those pertaining to the economy.
