Authorities at the Abuakwa Health Centre in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region, have condemned the use of a site close to the facility as cemetery.
The hospital authorities say a section of the royal family in the community has for some time now been burying their corpses at locations that pose health risks to both staff and patients.
In the latest attempt, the royal family tried to bury a corpse right behind the Out Patients' Department but they were met with resistance from hospital officials.
Nhyira FM's Ohemeng Tawiah, who has been to the facility, said although the site was originally earmarked for a cemetery, the hospital authorities insist a second look must be taken at the initial plan.
Deputy Chief Physician Assistant, Imoro Azumah, told Ohemeng Tawiah the hospital is finding it difficult to find a place to dispose off their waste.
"This is a hospital facility, we can decide to drill boreholes...to tap water; is it hygienic enough?", he asked.
Although the Chief of the Community is against the proximity of the cemetery to the hospital, some sub-chiefs hold dissenting view, reports Ohemeng Tawialh.
Imoro Azumah indicated that the presence of the cemetery also scares the staff, especially female staff on night duty.
