The three Krachie districts (Krachie East, Krachie West and Krachie Ntsumuru Districts) in the Volta region are likely to lose teachers as a result of suspected serial murders of teachers. The latest killing happened on 7th July, 2013 in a village called Hunor-Korfe where a head teacher, Marshall Manasseh Mensah, was murdered mysteriously. The Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Mawusi Alexander Buadi at a press conference on Friday stated that the serial murders of teachers are deliberate and date as far back as 1996 and no one has been arrested. He indicated that the indigenes have decided to be “the law” in the district making the police and traditional rulers helpless. These killings have discouraged teachers from working in the district, he said. “If the perpetrators of this heinous crime are not brought to justice, the Krachie districts stand the risk of losing many teachers,” he said.
