Parliament is considering setting up a sub-committee to follow up on the prosecution of public servants who were indicted in the 2011 Auditor General’s report for corruption. Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Kweku Agyemang Manu, announced this in response to assertions by President Mahama that previous sittings by the Committee were used to throw mud at government with no concrete solutions proffered. The President said PAC did not provide recommendations on how to deal with the CP judgement debt scandal which it probed. But speaking at the start of PAC's committee sitting, Monday, Kweku Agyemang Manu noted that the "actual implementation of the recommendations of the Committee are not supposed to be done by the Committee or even by Parliament at large". He said because of criticisms such as those from the President, the Committee has decided "to be a little bit innovative and...we are suggesting the setting up of a sub-committee within this group that will do follow up of our recommendations to ensure [they] are implemented." The PAC consists of not more than 25 members and is chaired by a Member of Parliament who does not belong to the party which controls the Executive arm of government. The duty of the committee is to examine the audited accounts of ministries, departments and agencies, showing the appropriation of the sums granted by Parliament to meet the public expenditure of the government as presented to Parliament by the Auditor-General.
