The President’s nominee for the Garu-Tempane District, Mr Albert Akoka Alalzuga was on Tuesday confirmed as District Chief Executive (DCE). He polled 100 per cent of votes cast by assembly members. Mr Alalzuga's victory followed a series of lobbying to prevent any disappointment, having failed 10 days ago to acquire the two-third majority votes needed to be confirmed. He was immediately sworn into office by the Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, taking the official oath of office and secrecy. The Regional Minister entreated him (DCE) to operate an open door policy and desist from lording over others, stressing the DCE “must emulate the humble nature of the late President John Atta Mills”. He commended the two members of Parliament in the area, Mr Dominic Azembe, MP for Garu and the MP for Tempane, Mr David Adakudugu for contributing significantly to the success of the voting. He further impressed upon the assembly to bury their political differences just as they did in electing the DCE in order to speed up the election of a presiding member, which they had voted two times without success. “This will affect the business of the house if you fail to do so speedily,” he pointed out. Mr Azumah stated that the way and manner the election was conducted demonstrated unity in the house and expressed optimism that within the next four years there would be dramatic development in the area. “Garu-Tempane had opened a good page today and this will continue to be developed. We will give the new DCE maximum support to develop the District," he said. The DCE-elect thanked the assembly members for confirming him and said their action demonstrated the confidence and trust the president had reposed in him with his appointment. “I dedicate my victory to all of you and I am going to be a father of all devoid of partisan politics, ethnicity and gender. I will work closely with all of you including all the heads of department. “I will also preach peace and consult all heads of department as well as collaborate with the Regional Minister and the MPs to accelerate the development of the District”. The Regional Director and Deputy of the Electoral Commission, Mr Bruce Ayesi and Mr Azu Bosco respectively supervised the election.
