Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency of Accra, Sarah Adwoa Safo has advised parents and teachers to spend more time with children in their formative years.
Adwoa safo noted that children pick up different character traits depending on the characters of those whose care they were entrusted.
The MP made the statement when she visited four schools within her constituency to commemorate ‘my first day at school’, a day set aside to mark toddler’s first entry into formal education.
The visit took her to four community based schools within the constituency and these include the Atomic D/A schools , Taifa Community Schools at Taifa, Icodec Islamic school at Dome and Atomic Hills Demonstration school also at Dome.
She was in the company of Mr. Kwao Sackey, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga East and the District Director of Education.
She counselled the teachers to give special care and take the appropriate steps to mould the toddlers in their care to acceptable societal standards, stressing that, failure to do so will make it almost impossible to change certain undesirable attitudes when the children develop beyond their formative ages.
The Dome-Kwabenya MP also advised the pupils to take their academic work serious and urged them to set high standards for themselves and aspire to take leadership positions in their respective career paths.
The Member of Parliament in collaboration with a U.S-based Ghanaian philanthropist, Mr. Daniel Boakye Mensah, donated a collection of books worth about GH¢15,000 to the four school she visited.
She also promised to donate some forty (40) bags of cement to aid in the construction of a six-unit classroom block for the Atomic D/A schools.
