The General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council, Alhaji Aliu Baba is asking passengers not to pay what he describes as illegal fares being charged by some drivers in Accra. Transport fares are expected to go up by an average of 20 percent from this Saturday. But Joy News checks here in Accra show that some commercial drivers have already started increasing their fares. At the Kwame Nkrumah Circle transport terminal, GPRTU officials there say they received a letter from the Road Transport Co-ordinating Council with a directive to immediately increase the fares by 20 per cent. However, General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council Alhaji Aliu Baba says passengers should not pay the illegal fares. He stressed that all the stakeholders agreed on Tuesday that the 20 per cent upward adjustment would take effect from September 14.
