Health professionals are encouraging Ghanaians to undergo eye test, at least, once a year to prevent any conditions of glaucoma and cataract.
Ashanti Regional Optometrist of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patience Fletcher, says many people with eye defects fail to seek medical attention until they have reached crisis stage.
She made the above remarks after receiving a cheque for 1,500 Ghana cedis donated by MTN distributor, Ashcell for public education on sight as part of World Sight Day.
World Sight Day is celebrated annually on the second Thursday of October.
This year’s celebration, under the theme ‘Get Your Eye Tested’, comes with free eye screening and surgery at Kokofu in the Ashanti Region.
Ghana ranks second in the world list of countries with high prevalence of glaucoma, described by experts as painless eye defect.
Dr. Fletcher says it is time for Ghanaians to pay attention to their sight to avoid the unexpected.
Corporate Services Executive at Ashcell, MTN main distributor for Ashanti region, Jerry Otchi, says the company is set to roll out several interventions to improve public health.
