Anti-corruption campaigner, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori is skeptical about the impact of the proposed Public Complaint Centers to be established by government to fight corruption.
He said the establishment of such a centre is useless and a total waste of tax payers money.
President John Mahama while addressing Muslims during this year’s Eid-ul Adha at the Independence Square Tuesday, announced government’s intent to establish a centre to receive complaints about any form of corruption and poor service delivery especially within the public sector in 2014.
This is part of effort to root out corruption in the country. President Mahama also assured the identities of the whistle blowers will be protected.
But PC Appiah Ofori stated unequivocally on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen that the establishment of the complaint center will be an exercise in futility.
He recalled how similar institution was set up by the erstwhile Kufuor administration and yet corruption issues were swept under the carpet.
The Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa maintained that “the implementation will not yield any results because in the past there were similar institutions like the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) but nothing came out of it.”
Although he conceded that a complaint centre to report corruption is a laudable idea, he insisted that “implementation of the programme will not be successful because the people who will be put in charge will not be loyal to the President.”
PC Appiah Ofori was certain the Public Complaint Centers to be established by the Mahama-led administration will not produce any meaningful results.
