Five months after the Kantamanto Market in Accra was burned to ashes by fire almost all the fire-hazardous wooden structures in the market have been reconstructed.

Although the exact cause of the fire still remains unknown, fire officials said the easily combustible wooden structures aided the spread of the blaze that destyoyed many properties.

The fire which swept through the market took away the livelihoods of about 800 traders.

It would be recalled that security personnel mounted a massive human wall to stop some of the desperate traders from attempting to salvage their wares or reconstruct temporary wooden structures.

But it seems the action by the security personnel was done on the spur of the moment.

Joy News' Jefferson Sackey visited the Kantamanto Market last night and reports that the traders are still engaging in activities that put them at risk of another fire outbreak.

Jefferson said poor electrical wiring which was identified as a likely cause of the fire is still ongoing.

One trader who claimed he lost everything in the fire could not tell where the electricity he uses to run his sewing business comes from.

He could not also tell if the electrical connection is illegal or not.
