The President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has described as ridiculous allegations by the National Security Advisor that the ongoing labour agitations in the country have been masterminded by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr. Anthony Simons told Joy News that the allegations were not only demeaning but an insult to the intelligence of Ghanaian workers.

According to him, the Association might be dragging Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah (rtd) before the courts to substantiate the insulting allegations made against UTAG and other Labour Unions.

The former Chief of Defence Staff in an interview on Adom FM alleged that the series of strikes and demonstrations by the labour unions were as a result of manipulations by the NPP.

He said his intelligence has revealed that the NPP leaders are using the labour unions as "Trojan horses" to create chaos and to win political power.

He had earlier on dared the angry workers to move out of Ghana if they could nott sacrifice a little for the country.

His comments, especially the recent, have angered many workers in the country.

Dr. Anthony Simons further noted that the comments are "childish" and ought not to have come from a National Security Advisor, adding that his Association had embarked on a number of strikes and none of them was influenced in any way by the NPP or any political party.

He therefore explained that the Association signed a communique with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission but the latter failed to respect the dictates of the communique, which forced the Association to embark on the strike.

In his view, Dr. Simons noted that the Association is made up very intelligent professionals with different political affiliation and could not be manipulated in anyway by any political party as he planned to suggest to the National Executive Council (NEC) of UTAG to take legal action against the Security advisor.

If NEC agrees to the proposal, Dr. Simons indicate that UTAG will be dragging the National Security Advisor to court for impugning their integrity.
