A man died after a dilapidated building popularly known as 1910, in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi, collapsed on him.
Several others were also injured. The deceased was trapped under a broken wall while the rest managed to escape.
The Kumasi Metro Fire Officer, DO3 Atta Kumi told Erastus Asare Donkor of Luv FM that two out of the three people managed to escape as one person got trapped within the collapsed building.
According to him, the three persons cutting the iron rods in the concrete slaps as they suddenly got hit by the collapsed building
The wall fell on them, and the three managed to escape but the fourth could not. so he was trapped", the Kumasi Metro Fire Officer noted .
The Fire Service managed to cut all the iron rods in the walls and then retrieved dead body.
DO3 Atta Kuma further indicated that the dead body was retrieve and given to the police.
He noted that even though the service had recommended the structure to be pulled down, it had not yet been done.
"We have recommended for the pulling down of walls or the remains of 1910 but as at now we have not seen any affirmative action to that effect, so, we are waiting", the Fire Officer intimated.
He was therefore of view that the remains of the 1910 be pulled down to avoid any future calamity.
