Calls for the resignation or dismissal of the supposed National Security Advisor may be unnecessary because the Information Minister Mahama Ayariga cannot say for a fact if Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah is indeed the National Security Advisor.
The Brigadier General was named by the late President John Mills as National Security Advisor in 2009 and remained so until Mills' tenure elapsed in 2012, his death notwithstanding.
It is not clear if President John Mahama, having retained power after the 2012 general elections, also maintained Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah as National Security Advisor.
There is yet to be an official communication to that effect.
When asked on Joy FM's Newsfile to clarify the position of General Nunoo Mensah as National Security Advisor, Mahama Ayariga said he cannot tell, at least for now.
He can only assume that administratively he is still at post because the office of National Security Advisor has not been closed down.
He explained that processes would have to be followed before a person is named as an advisor to the government.
He could not say if those procedures had been concluded. He offered to cross-check and come later with the information.
Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah made the headlines for the wrong reasons when he charged public sector workers to get out of the country if they cannot sacrifice for the country.
His comments angered the workers and some politicians, particularly the NPP, leading to a call on him to resign or be dismissed as security advisor.
But his position as National security advisor is yet to be confirmed by the chief government spokesperson.
Kweku Baako Jnr, who was a panelist on the show, described as a major lapse, the fact that the Information Minister could not say the exact position of General Nunoo Mensah and is now offering to cross-check.
