A non-governmental organization, Legal Resources Centre, is calling on government to intensify education on legal representation of children in court.
Project Officer, Enoch Jangere, says most cases involving children are prosecuted without any legal services for them in breach of their rights.
He says though the state provides free legal services to those who cannot afford, lack of education is preventing access to such schemes.
Mr. Jangere spoke at a training programme for paralegals in Ashanti Region.
Participants were drawn from Kumasi Metropolis, Sekyere South and Sekyere East districts and Kwabre East municipality.
Paralegals are community based contacts trained to give basic legal advice to communities with limited access to legal services.
They also serve as valuable link between lawyers and other members of the community, in addition to serving as crucial points of contact for children in conflict with the law.
Legal practitioner, Clarke Noyoru, says children who fall foul of the law should be punished in a child friendly manner in order to prevent any negative effect on them.
He believes children having legal representation in court can help drive that course.
