The Ghana Burns Survivors Foundation is incensed that a suspect walks free four months after starting a fatal gas station inferno.
The alleged gas leakage killed two people and injured six including a severely burnt 10 year old girl at Ahwiaa Ntam, in Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
The NGO is demanding a probe into the incident after the suspect identified only as Sumaila was granted bail without prosecution.
Residents of Ahwiaa Ntam say Sumaila who was angered by his dismissal by his employer at an LPG station returned to the station after work had closed at 5:30pm that fateful day.
He secretly directed a gas tube into a drain to dissipate the product.
The flammable substance caught fire in a nearby prayer house and left two people dead while six others including a 10-year old girl suffered serious burns in a face, leg and arms.
The girl, Precious, narrated how she fell down and was caught unaware by the fire while going for soup. Speaking English, she says" it was hot" in a demonstrable voice. She has undergone at least one surgery.
Her father thrown off into a bush by the heat current and is also receiving treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
"He is not a correct man", a witness said to Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor, suggesting Sumaila's capacity for wicked acts.
The Asawase Police Commander Superintendent Appiah confirmed the arrest of Sumaila but granted him bail after two days. According to him, a docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General's department for advice.
The father is accusing the police, owners of the gas station, NORGAS and leader of the prayer camp of agreeing to an out-of-court settlement while victims suffer.
President of the Ghana Burns Survivors Foundation, Dennis Opoku Gyamfi, wants the matter investigated by mandated state institutions.
"There seems to be criminality in this matter because it was a deliberate act. Who gave them [NORGAS] that authority to work here with house around..I wish the authorities will set up a commission to find out what really happened", he said.
