The 10th anniversary commemoration of the National Health Insurance Scheme [NHIS] will be climaxed with an International Conference to be attended by health financing, policy experts, civil society groups and other stakeholders across the world.
The conference on the theme, “Towards Universal Health Coverage: Increasing Enrolment whilst Ensuring Sustainability” is expected to inspire bright ideas on how countries of the world hoping to broaden their citizens’ access to healthcare, can develop efficient systems to achieve this whilst ensuring sustainability.
The conference, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, will have His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, as special guest of honour.
Delegates from over 20 countries will participate in the two-day event which comes off from November 4-5, 2013 at the Accra International Conference Centre
Chairman of the Planning Committee and Deputy Chief Executive [Operations] of the NHIA, Nathaniel Otoo, said “for countries which already have viable strategies towards Universal Health Coverage, the Conference will hopefully provide a forum for brainstorming on approaches to quicken the march.”
According to him, the Conference is expected to “leave a lasting impression about Ghana on the global health financing stage and will afford Ghana the opportunity to learn and compare notes with other more experienced countries globally.”
Moderators, Presenters and Panelists from Ghana and the participating countries will share their experiences in moving towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Topics to be covered include:
- Innovative Health Financing
- Expanding Primary Healthcare
- New Trends in Patient Safety
- Effective Resource Management
- Improving Targeting of the Poor and Ensuring Equity.
