The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha has expressed worry over the increasing loss of lives on the road.
Speaking at the fourth Upper West region road safety awards, Issahaku Nuhu stated that the past ten months has seen 63 people losing their lives and call for strategies to put a stop to that.
He said in the first half of this year, 42 people died through road crashes; three months later, 21 people also perished through the same road crashes making it 63 deaths in ten months.
Mr. Putiaha said the situation is unacceptable and everything possible must be done to stabilize and further reverse trend.
He appealed to road users to adopt positive behaviour.
The Chief Executive, praised the road safety commission for the introduction of the awards stating that it should be expanded beyond transport organisations and the media houses to include road agencies, Department of vehicle licensing Authority and National Ambulance Service.
The Upper West regional director of the National Road Safety Commission, Abdul Samad Mohammed said the road awards were instituted in the region four years ago to encourage transport unions in the region to compete among themselves on best practices in order for them to save lives and also to ensure there is safety on the road.
