A police corporal was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Hospital early Monday, after he was hit by what officials say was a stray bullet from a colleague’s weapon.
Lance Corporal Kwabena Yaw and Constable Emmanuel Boateng, both of the Asokwa Divisional Command of the Ashanti Region, attempted to arrest an alleged vehicle-snatcher, when the incident occurred.
According to Divisional Commander, Superintendent Reverend Adane Ameyaw, the two were deployed to an accident scene at Santasi, when they came across a mob chasing an alleged car snatcher.
He said Corporal Kwabena Yaw managed to grab the suspect, who put up a fierce resistance in an attempt to escape.
In the ensuing struggle, Constable Boateng attempted to shoot the alleged criminal in the leg but missed the target. The bullet instead hit his colleague, Corporal Yaw in the shoulder.
The suspect managed to escape following the shooting. Rev. Adane Ameyaw is appealing to the public to assist the police to apprehend him.
However, Corporal Kwabena Yaw is said to be in stable condition at the Komfo Anokye Hospital Accident and Emergency Unit.
