Officials of the management company contracted by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to manage the city’s Kejetia terminal, are threatening legal action against the Assembly for forcibly ejecting them.
The KMA today took over management of the terminal from FREKO FD citing the latter’s breach of existing contractual agreement.
It was contracted in 2010 by the Assembly to manage the terminal and keep 62% of revenue while the KMA takes 28%.
But the KMA says the company has not been transparent in the management of the revenue accrued.
A combined team of police cum military personnel on Monday secured the transport terminal while staff of the KMA took over collection of tolls there.
Freda Darko, Manageress of FREKO FD says she had filed a motion in court challenging an earlier decision to send the case to an arbitration committee.
Godwin Okomanyame, Public Relations Officer at the KMA told Luv Fm's Erastus Asare Donkor that the Assembly went followed legal procedure in terminating the contract.
"Due diligence was done before the contract was terminated...the action is legal," Mr. Okomanyame said.
"We need to make sure that we manage it well to the benefit of the people of Kumasi...and make sure that we take care of the sanitation problem here," the PRO said.
