The Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana has waded into the controversial leaked tape saga involving former Deputy Communications Minister Ms Victoria Hamah and has demanded an independent inquiry into the matter.
A statement signed by the spokesperson of the Association Bishop Prince Benny Wood said "the tape has become a public document and cast a slur on the presidency and the Supreme Court of the Land.
"It's authenticity, the motive behind the recording, the people involve[d] and the reason for the swift dismissal of the deputy must be established," the statement said.
Ms Hamah was sacked by President John Mahama after the content of her privately recorded conversation went viral last week.
The concerned clergy maintains the dismissal alone is not enough and that given the international dimension and comments made about the Supreme Court, an "independent inquiry" is needed to put the matter to rest.
