The revised Property and Spousal Bill 2013 is recommending that informal duties of spouses in a marriage be rewarded.
Chairperson of the Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA -Ghana), Sheila Minkah-Premo, told Joy News currently the courts decide the percentage of property distribution between the couples after the dissolution of a marriage.
In the new Bill however, each spouse would receive 50 percent of jointly acquired property.
Madam Minkah-Premo said for a woman to benefit she must prove that she indeed contributed while married.
"A lot of women become very bitter by their contribution not being recognised, sometimes not even in monetary terms but in terms of their time.
"Some even help in husband's or wife's businesses.."
She said the prospective beneficiary must show evidence of their contribution to the court.
"It is not women who will benefit, men will benefit too," she said.
