There is growing tension at Lantei, a suburb of Ankwa-Doboro in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri municipality over the assembly’s decision to pull down over eight hundred houses belonging to residents.
The decision, according to the assembly is to pave way for a private stone quarry operator, Kobby Quarry to commence stone quarry activities in the area. Joy News has picked signals that there could be a possible clash between the residents, the district security council and claimants to a large stone quarry deposit in the area.
The residents have up till November 25 to vacate the area, but they say they have legal documentation from all the appropriate quarters to reside there.
Joy FM's Eastern Regional correspondent, Kofi Siaw, who visited the area, reported that the decision by the Assembly to pull down the houses came about, when the Noko Yedjen family head, Ishmeal Ayittey, who originally sold out plots of lands to the people, informed them about the family's decision to lease the area to a Stone quarry operator.
Speaking to Joy News, Cyrus Zory, Spokes person for the aggrieved landlords noted that around July, they heard from the family head that a rock in the middle of the town had been released to a stone quarry operator.
According to him, the quarry operator had asked the residents to vacate the area to enable him conduct his quarry activities.
The spokesperson then called on the government to come to the aid of the over three thousand residents, who may lose their buildings should the planned demolishing exercise take place.
