Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Safety, a non-profit organization, has urged the Ghana Police Service to go beyond increasing its presence this yuletide in the bid to ensure public safety.
Accra Regional Commander of Police, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, assured JoyNews on MultiTV that public safety will be a top priority during the festive season.
Already, the Police Service has recalled all officers on leave as a way of stepping up its presence. The Police Service also announced the introduction of the Motorbike Patrol System to discourage potentially dangerous persons.
However the Bureau of Public Safety's Executive Director, Nana Yaw Akwaada, intimates increasing visilbilty in itself will not ensure public safety, hence he urged the police to "engage suspicious people and reduce aggressive behaviour".
The Bureau of Public Safety, works with government agencies, businesses and civil society organizations to improve public safety through advocacy, education and development of programs for sustainable development.
Nana Yaw Akwaada also called on the public to help the Police to enhance public safety since it is "a collective responsibility".
He added that the public must report crime and suspicious people because that would go a long way to keep the public safe.
