The Education Ministry has expressed disappointment over demonstrations by some teacher trainees protesting the withdrawal of their allowances.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry Paul Krampah said the demonstrations are "uncalled for."
Some teacher trainees in the three northern regions as well as the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions were said to have hit the road in demonstration against the new policy.
They were agitating the withdrawal of their allowance which they claim serves as an extra incentive to them.
But speaking to Citi News, the Education Ministry's PRO insisted the action of students was in bad taste.
According to him, the students were already made aware of the new policy even before they were admitted.
He explained that in place of the allowance withdrawal, the trainees were given the option to apply for the students loan to facilitate funding of their education.
According to him, the decision to withdraw the allowance was taken after a broad-based consultation with all stakeholders in the ministry.
He said it was also part of the initiatives to restructure the teacher trainee programme.
Mr. Krampah therefore found it surprising that the trainees would burst on to the streets in protest over a scrapped policy.
