Sissala West District Assembly is on course to hitting the revenue projection target of sixty-seven thousand, four hundred and seventy Ghana Cedis (GH 67,470.00) set by the assembly at the start of the year.
The last ten months have seen the assembly collect a little over fifty-six thousand six hundred and seventy seven (GH 56,667) Ghana Cedis representing 84 per cent of the revenue projection target.
This was announced by the District Chief Executive, Moses Dramaani Luri at the third ordinary meeting of the assembly at the district capital, Gbollu.
He stated that revenue mobilisation remains and continues to be the life blood of the assembly and urged Assembly Members, traditional rulers and Unit committee and Area Council members not to rest on their oars but strive hard to achieve the target.
In the area of security, Mr. Luri said the district is generally calm with the inhabitants going about their normal duties without hindrance.
He was however quick to add that they have been instances of petty robberies, cattle rustling and motorbike thefts especially along the border with Burkina Faso.
He advised the people to be the first line of security to protect themselves and their properties and also be security conscious at all times.
Mr. Luri expressed worry about the performance of pupils in recent times at the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
According to him, the 2013 BECE results indicated that 84.2 per cent failed, a result he insisted must not be allowed to recur.
He tasked the District Director of Education to submit list of challenges confronting education and possible suggestions on the way forward for study and necessary action by the assembly.
‘‘I think the problem confronting the education is beyond one institution. We need to adopt a sectoral approach to reverse the trend,’’ he added.
