On this day - World Anti – Corruption Day, the GACC urge Ghanaians to speak up and demand action from government in the fight to achieve zero tolerance to corruption on the occasion of World Anti – Corruption Day.
This day is an opportunity to raise awareness about corruption and its devastating effects on societies worldwide.
Governments, private sector, non-governmental organizations, the media and ordinary citizens around the world are joining forces to fight this crime.
The 2013 Global Campaign to commemorate the International Anti-corruption is on the theme“Zero Corruption - 100% Development.”
Corruption in Ghana destroys opportunities and creates rampant inequalities. It undermines human rights and good governance, stifles economic growth and distorts markets.
The fight against corruption needs a concerted effort; citizens need to speak up, government needs to be more accountable and transparent.
Eventhough Ghana has slightly improved on Transparency International’s 2012 Corruption Perception Index, scoring 46 points and ranking 63 out of 177 countries, there are still worrying signs of the pervasive nature of corruption in the country.
It is certain that ending corruption will mean so much. It will mean zero tolerance to bribery; zero tolerance will mean government commitment to punish offenders and perpetrators of corrupt acts, zero tolerance to fraud, extortion and embezzlement. Zero tolerance will also mean celebrating development instead of crying of poverty.
We wish to commend our partners and supporters for making significant contributions in the fight against corruption.
Signed
Mrs. Florence Dennis
Executive Secretary
