The National Media Commission (NMC) is demanding transparency in the management and disbursement of the media development fund.
According to the Executive Secretary of the NMC, George Sarpong, the commission will not back down on their stance until the right thing is done.
Speaking to Joy News Friday, Mr. Sarpong noted: "it is about the transparency and constitutionality of the process. That you cannot manage a process of this nature in the manner somebody seeks to do.
"That is precisely the reason why we said let us have a more transparent process towards the establishment of this system and [it] should not be left to somebody to determine [it]. Transparency is needed in this process and must involve all stakeholders".
The Media Development Fund was launched in 2012 by then Vice President Mahama to help improve the capacity of journalists in Ghana.
However, a tango between the Information Ministry, the NMC and the Media Associations over who should control the fund has stalled disbursements since it was set up.
Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Murtala Mohammed said the decision of the NMC not to join the stakeholders is holding up the formation of the board to manage the fund.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister noted: "[the reason for our] inability to constitute the board is that all the stakeholders have sent their representatives except NMC, and that is the challenge".
