A Research Fellow at the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, John Peter Amewu says the Ministry of Energy must not jubilate for successfully adding 400 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
According to the Research Fellow, adding 400 megawatts of power to the national grid is no achievement at all and demanded that government should halt the fanfare and work towards adding more to the country’s power generation capacity.
Peter Amewu was reacting to the fanfare that greeted the commissioning by the President of the 400 Megawatts of power for the Bui hydroelectric power project.
After the commissioning today, all four turbines of the Bui Dam are deemed operational and would help solve the erratic power supply in the country. President Mahama who commissioned the project hailed those who made the project a success.
But Speaking to Joy News Research Fellow at the Africa Centre for Energy Policy Peter Amewu says that Ghana is thinking of generating 5000 megawatts of power so the 400 megawatts added is not sufficient and no achievement at all.
"The minister should not consider that as an achievement at all", Peter Amewu intimated.
He noted that Ghana needs to have a long term plan as the country thinks of industrializing.
He admited though that the addition will help put an end to the power outages that engulfed the country in recent times for which government must be commended.
