The Communications manager at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Selorm Adonoo says the capitation scheme will be replicated across the country from January, next year.
According to him, the Authority has a series of programmes to scale up next year to enhance the scheme and make it more efficient for use by Ghanaians
Speaking on Joynews, Tuesday, Mr. Adonoo noted that other programmes set to be undertaken next year include electronic claim system that will scale up and enhance the data management system, increase enrolment and have a lot more members on the scheme in addition to introducing the instant ID card system under the scheme.
According to the Communications manager, a comprehensive data management system will be put in place to update the system and increase membership of beneficiaries of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Mr. Adonoo's comment was in response to demands by the Ashanti Health Service providers, for the immediate suspension of the NHIS capitation, until a nationwide rollout is started.
At a news conference today, the Ashanti health providers intimated that the scheme, which is operating on a pilot basis, is having a toll on their finances as the cost of services granted patients far outweighs the capitation provided by government.
Meanwhile, the authority says it is satisfied with its own monitoring and evaluation of the pilot capitation in the Ashanti Region, and is ready to replicate the new payment system across the country.
