Edlorm Real Estate Developers, in partnership with JOY FM, has donated Five thousand Ghana cedis for a surgery to correct a birth defect on a-nine-year class four pupil from Kpatia, a suburb of Bolgatanga in the upper east region.
Anaba Abugre’s condition makes it impossible for him to control his urine.
The condition, according to his teachers and parents, has adversely affected his progress in school as other pupils despise him.
With the donation, he can now heave a sigh of relief.
After JoyNews aired a story about his congenital medical condition known as Bladder Exstrophy, Edlorm Real Estate Developers and other philanthropists, who prefer to remain anonymous, donated monies to help correct his defect.
JoyNews’ Upper East Correspondent, Albert Sore, first filed the story about how little Anaba’s bladder is exposed resulting in his urine constantly dripping.
Little Anaba’s condition was diagnosed by doctors at the Akomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and was booked for surgery in April 2012.
However, the parents could not afford even the cost of transportation from Bolgatanga to Kumasi. The GHC5,000 required for the surgery was, therefore, completely out of reach.
But Edlorm Housing offered to help.
Speaking to JoyNews after rceving the donation, little Anaba said he was excited that the prospects of going back to school after the surgery were bright.
Raymond Akolbire Ayinne, External Affairs Manager of Afrikids, an NGO coordinating the surgery, said he also excited that Anaba could now go through surgery to correct the birth defect.
Mr. Ayinne said even though Anaba is an exceptionally kid, the condition was a source of great embarrassment to him and his family, adding, “he will have the chance to live a normal life”.
He, therefore, expressed gratitude to the institutions and individuals, who contributed to pay for Anaba's treatment.
