Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and four other public health facilities in Kumasi delivered 39 babies on Christmas Day.

KATH recorded the highest number of births – 23 babies, made up of 14 males and nine females.

Mrs Cynthia Bruce Smith, Deputy Director (Nurse Manager), Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that two of them were delivered through caesarian section (CS) that mothers and babies were doing well.

At the Suntreso Government Hospital, seven babies were born – five boys and two girls. Miss Priscilla Owusu, a Staff Midwife at the Maternity Ward, said they were doing well and would soon be discharged.

The Kumasi South Hospital had six deliveries, three males and same number of females. Madam Gladys Asantewaah, the Midwife, said one came through CS and that the mothers and babies had clean bills of health.

At the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital, Mrs Beatrice Dzidzornu, Senior Nursing Officer in-charge of the Maternity Unity, said a set of twins (boys) were born there and added that for the last three years the facility had neither recorded any maternal nor child death.

The Tafo Government Hospital recorded the least births – there was a single birth - that of a baby boy.
