The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says it has destroyed some two-40-feet containers of expired products imported into the country by pharmaceutical firm, TOBINCO.
According to the Authority, the items, which include 400,000 bottles of an Anti-Malaria drugs, 27,000 bottles of another anti-malaria drug and 150-1300 packs of anti-fungal drugs, were destroyed on Tuesday.
The items were said to have been seized from a warehouse located at Spintex, a suburb of Accra, belonging to Tobinco Pharmaceutical company.
The head of Post Surveillance Market unit and Drug Enforcement of FDA, Issaka Collins Coffie told JOYNEWS these products were discovered under the authorities own surveillance program.
“We have been able to secure the place as part of our surveillance activities and have been able to dispose of these products safely”, he intimated.
He however, denied that the action of the Authority is part of attempts to paint TOBINCO as a bad company.
“We are just doing it to prove to Ghanaians that our suspicion or actions we took the last time was justified”, Iassaka Collins Coffie noted.
Meanwhile, when JoyNews contacted officials of TOBINCO Pharmaceutical Company, they declined to comment on the issue.
