The Accra Regional Police command is to begin a massive clamp down on group motor bike riders from January 1, 2014.
The practice where young motor riders move in convoy to celebrate the festive season is gradually gaining root in the country
But the public have expressed concern about the trend since according to them, thieves and miscreants engage in the practice to disturb the peace.
An official of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Freeman Tettey in an interview with Joy News said the total disregard traffic rules and regulations by these motor riders is illegal.
“They are not supposed to be in a convoy on unregistered motor bikes disturbing the peace and making a lot of noise that is offensive to the ears” he stressed.
DSP Freeman Tettey added that the Accra Police Command in collaboration with the Community Policing Directorate will embark on massive sensitization to enforce the law and ensure that those who are caught are sent to court and prosecuted.
He warned that the police will not entertain any appeals from influential members of the society who always come to the aid of miscreants once arrested.
