Police in the Northern regional capital, Tamale have initiated disciplinary measures against the Tamale Metro head of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), Chief Inspector Lawrence Adombire.
It follows complaints of abuse leveled against him by a thirty-six year old mother of three.
Speaking to Joy News' Manasseh Azure Awuni, the Northern Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, ASP Emmanuel Holotu noted, "the lady reported to me that my officer assaulted her. As an institution, we have disciplinary regulation, so I enquired verbally from the officer; he denied, but we are taking disciplinary measures to find out if the alleged assault was true or not".
According to the Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, the police have laid down procedures to follow regarding such issues and that, what is going on currently is in line with the service regulation.
Furthermore, ASP Holotu pointed out that this development is the first time such issue has officially come to his notice.
The alleged victim, who prefers to remain anonymous, went to the Tamale DOVVSU to report her husband, who threw her and her children out of the house.
She told JOY NEWS she is experiencing a hearing impairment after she was slapped.
"He [Chief Inspector Lawrence Adombire] just start [sic] slapping me....he slapped me [and I could not sleep because my ear hurts]. He slapped me three times", the alleged victim narrated.
Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Lawrence Adombire has denied slapping the woman, but admitted shouting at her because she was not being cooperative.
