The Secretary General of the Trade Unions Congress (TUC), Kofi Asamoah has categorically stated that labour front should not be blamed for the confusion that has rocked government finances regarding the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP).
Speaking at the 51st quadrennial conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Accra, Wednesday, the TUC boss called on government to find ways of solving the problem and manage its wage bill, which he said "has been inefficient so far".
The conference is under the theme: Education in Crisis: The development agenda beyond 2015.
Joy News' Anna Betylee, who was at the conference, reported that GNAT is also asking government to ensure improved conditions of service for teachers across the country.
Addressing the conference, Acting President of GNAT, Samuel Doe Alobia, also lamented the situation, where teachers in deprived areas are denied their allowances.
Additionally, Mr. Alobia described as a draw-back on successes chalked by the association, the withdrawal of teacher trainees allowances by government.
He therefore called on government to compensate teachers with good salaries to encourage them to give off their best in the teaching field.
