As the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) continues to demolish hundreds of houses at Adjei Kojo near Tema in the last four days, officials of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) are preparing to offer relief items to victims of the demolition exercise.
Speaking to Joy News, the Tema Municipal Chief Executive Isaac Ashai Odamtey said victims are currently being registered by the assembly in order for relief items to be provided to them.
According to the MCE the assembly is collaborating with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to make relief items available to those, who have been affected by the demolition exercise undertaken by the TDC.
Mr. Odamtey also noted that the assembly is intervening to offer the necessary assistance and to settle the issue between the TDC and affected people.
The TDC claims the residents in the area are encroachers of its land and have further threatened to demolish more houses in the area.
Since Tuesday, bulldozers, escorted by a combined team of heavily armed military and police personnel, razed down many houses at Sraha and King Solomon, all within the Tema catchment area.
The action was undertaken despite fierce opposition from residents, local chiefs and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
Joy News' Joseph Opoku Gakpo, who was on the ground at Adjei Kojo reported that TDC officials are getting ready, with their heavy equipments to move to other areas of Adjei Kojo to continue with their demolishing exercise
