The police at Wa on Wednesday arrested two illegal chainsaw operators who had sawn a total of 123 pieces of wood in two communities near Bulenga in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Robert Ayalingo, Regional Police Commander who revealed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa named the suspects as Yakubu Seidu, 32, Martin Effah, also 32, who had travelled from Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region and Abubakari Captain, who is currently on the run.
He said Yakubu Seidu who had reported to the police about the operations was later identified in the village as one of the major operators who was disgruntled about the "interference" of Martin Effah from Techiman.
ACP Ayalingo said the police retrieved 75 pieces of 2x4 mahogany boards at Gho, while 48 2x6 pieces were also retrieved at Sahe, both farming communities in the Wa East District.
He said the two would be arraigned before court while investigations had been intensified to arrest Abubakari Captain and to retrieve the machines used in the operations.
