The Teshie Traditional Council has petitioned the National House of Chiefs to expunge Gbetse Nii Ashitey Akomfra III from its register as chief of Teshie.
The petition, signed by Nii Nortey Tuaka II, Shipi of Teshie and Paul Akporh Sowah, Secretary of the Teshie Traditional Council, says some known people manipulated to have Gbetse Nii Ashitey Akomfra III installed as chief.
They mention Dr. Kotei Dzanie, a member of the Council of State and Osu Mantse, Nii Nortey Okwei Kinka Dowaunya VI as persons scheming to impose Gbetse on the people of Teshie.
“Our intelligence gathered pointed to the fact that the said Dr Kotei Dzanie went and manipulated the Osu Mantse who happened to be the president of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and the Minister of Chieftaincy for the name of the candidate selected by the fact finding committee to be changed and be replaced by the said Gbetse Nii Ashitey Akomfra III,” the Council said in the petition.
The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs in July affirmed the nomination of Gbetse Nii Ashitey Akomfra III to be installed as Teshie Mantse.
Teshie, a fishing community in the Greater Accra Region, has been without a chief since the death of Nii Ashikwei Akomfra III in 1985.
At the time, the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs said it was unfortunate that "any attempt to install a chief led to the destruction of lives and property."
