The District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South in the Brong Ahafo Region has rendered a public apology over his wild outburst at a public gathering weeks ago.
Gabriel Barima angrily walked out of the gathering after an unknown person made a derogatory remark in response to a comment the DCE made while delivering an address to a gathering of chiefs and health workers of the district.
A video of the DCE's explosion went viral on social media and drew condemnation from the public, compelling Mr. Barima to render an apology to the president, John Mahama.
Mr. Barima had barely begun his speech when a dissatisfied member of the gathering supposed to be a health worker, shouted; "tweeeaaa" - a disparaging Akan language remark. He then got furious and demanded his audience produce the man who made the derogatory remark.
"Who said Tweeeaaa? What do you mean by 'Tweeeeaa'? How can you sit somewhere and behave like you are talking to your co-equal; I'm I your co-equal?...If you are a hospital worker, who are you? Why do you have to behave in that manner?"
Several pleas from organisers to calm him down yielded no result as Mr. Barima angrily stormed out of the event ground.
"I won't talk again; I am not talking," the angry DCE ranted while he walked to his vehicle.
But in a brief apology issued Thursday, Mr. Barima "deeply regrets" his "unfortunate outburst". He also rendered an unqualified apology to the "Chiefs and people of Ahafo Ano South District and all Ghanaians who have been offended by my outburst".
Meanwhile, president John Mahama has nominated the following as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE), in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Government Act 1993, Act 462.
