Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that plans are underway for Ghana to export electricity to Mali and Niger..
Burkina Faso has already joined Togo, Benin and Ivory Coast as countries in the West African sub-region to receive Ghana’s power export.
Speaking at the 3rd Ecowas Sustainable Energy Forum in Accra on Wednesday, the Vice President said the move is to help improve the socio-economic conditions of the country’s neighbouring countries.
“Apart from power exports to Togo and Benin, we have also started the export of affordable and reliable electricity to Burkina Faso,” he said
According to the Vice President, the government has initiated projects to expand grids which will allow Ghana to further export electricity to other countries in the sub-region including Mali and Niger.
Dr Bawumia said the government is committed to providing the necessary logistics and capital to build a sustainable power sector in the country to support the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the long term.
“To ensure that Ghana remains committed to its renewable energy portfolio standards, we have completed a comprehensive National Renewable Energy Master Plan (REMP) with a comprehensive strategy for implementation. As a government, we would ensure that the plan is implemented to the letter,” he said.Latest Stories
