An internal investigation is underway into claims by air traffic controllers that Ghana’s air safety has been compromised.
The air traffic controllers planned a partial withdrawal of service to protest what they say are unprecedented challenges facing the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority in their quest to meet international standards.
The group has deferred the protest till the end of the month.
In a statement, the air controllers said there is total technical confusion at the Civil Aviation Authority posing safety hazards.
It also revealed crisis in the management of the country’s airspace with Togo and Benin.
Director General of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey has told Joy News the claims are being taken seriously.
He said he can confirm that "there are concerns that have been raised by the Air Traffic Controllers of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority," which is one of the many departments of the authority.
According to Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey, the authority is in discussions with Air Traffic Controllers and "they've written to the minister. The minister is addressing the issue. In house, the board has set up a committee to investigate their concerns."
In spite of this, he reassured that the travelling public remain safe.
